PDM-backed revenue options will bring $418,631 to Chelmsford!

Passage of new revenue options on Beacon Hill, and then in Chelmsford, will bring much-needed revenue.

Good News!

PDM-backed revenue options will bring $418,631 to Chelmsford!

Three different revenue options that PDM worked for have finally passed.

First and second, the local option meals tax is projected to raise $166,338 in FY10, and the local options hotel tax should raise $121,377. And third, telecommunication poles and wires will now be subject to property tax, generating an additional $130,916. (This closed a loophole that had been open since 1915, which had the ridiculous side-effect of charging personal property tax to Comcast but not to Verizon, even on the same pole.)

Many people and groups beyond PDM were involved, and we are proud to have played a part. Last year, local PDM members in Chelmsford contacted our State legislators and Board of Selectmen to encourage state passage of these revenue sources. With your help, this year we contacted the Board of Selectmen and Town Meeting Reps to help win passage of the local options. Thank you!

We meet every Tuesday morning, 8am at the Java Room. If you'd like to know more, feel free to drop in or contact us. Email chelmsford-info@progressiveDemsOfMass.org.
