2012 Agenda: Survey Results!
Here are the results of our survey to find out what issues you would like to work on over the next 12 months. Thank you, everyone, for responding!
What Issues do you want to focus on this year (5--Very Important)
- 4.7 Elizabeth Warren for US Senate
- 4.5 Electing progressives to state legislative seats
- 4.2 Responding to Citizens United and election reform
- 4.0 State tax reform to address adequacy and equity
- 3.0 Supporting the Occupy movement and its goals
Other Issues: Many people also wrote-in their suggestions for other specific issues, but no write-in issue was suggested by more than two people.
Candidates: We also asked people to write-in specific candidates for state or local offices that they would like to support. Only two candidates received more than two write-ins: Mike Barrett (5) and Barbara L'Italien (4). I'm sure we'll have more to say about PDM participation in local campaigns.
Are there issues in your community that PDM could help in organizing around?
- Citizen United Effort
- Social and racial justice in our communities
- Stop the 3 strikes you’re out bill
- Lexington-low to moderate housing
- Helping unions work together
- Voter registration
- The Bio-lab
Which of the following trainings would you like to attend? (5—Very Important)
- 2.9 Nuts and bolts of state tax reform: Issues and lobbying strategies
- 2.5 How to talk to your neighbors about politics as part of a grassroots campaign
- 2.4 How to organize a local campaign (either to elect someone or to garner support for an issue)
We probably shouldn't be surprised at the number of people who weren't interested in any additional training. Many PDMers are veterans of many campaigns. The most interest was for training about extending our influence outside of campaigns.
Thank you, everyone. Comments are open, please feel free to post your thoughts.

The most important issue
I am stunned that the most important list did not include reelecting President Obama. What do you think will happen if Mitt Romney is elected? The occupy movement was important, but not exactly my idea of one that should make the top five in the country. I'd appreciate more specifics on what can be done to get Citizens United overturned, and would like to work toward that end goal. I don't live in Lexington and am concerned that one town's issue should have made it to the top five of the PDM agenda. Again with the where did this come from, the issues that PDM could help organizing should include reelecting President Obama, setting the stage for overturning Citizens United, which the Supreme Court will most likely not hear for quite a while, and state tax reform. Thanks for reading my suggestions on what I hope will be progress forward.
Climate Change
As an office holder, how would you address the need for very strong action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prepare communities in Massachusetts for the extreme weather events that climate change is already precipitating across the coutnry and world?
