PDM 2012 Endorsements
Should we endorse your favorite candidate in the Democratic primary? From Peter Enrich, here's how you can influence our endorsement process:
PDM will endorse a small set of candidates around the state, where the outcome can make a real difference in progressive representation at the State House, and where PDM can make a real difference in the outcome. In recent election cycles we have endorsed from 3 to 6 candidates, and then have worked to focus our members' efforts to have an impact on those races.
Typically, we have limited our endorsements to candidates who have been endorsed by the Mass Alliance, the consortium of progressive organizations of which PDM is a member, although we have made occasional exceptions in the past, where PDM activists had a special interest in a candidate.
The ultimate decision of which candidates to endorse will be made in a conference call among our Sustaining Members, which is scheduled for Aug. 13. If you aren't yet a Sustaining Member, it isn't too late to become one in time for the Aug. 13 call. To enroll as a Sustaining Member, follow this link.
Whether or not you're a Sustaining Member, we'd very much value your input in our decisions about whom to endorse. Please add your comments about specific candidates whom you think we should (or shouldn't) endorse, at this link. Also feel free to offer more general comments about the criteria or approach you think we should use in making these endorsements.
Thanks very much for your interest. We look forward to hearing from you.

Previously suggested candidates
These are the candidates who were suggested by people in our 2012 Agenda Survey. Each candidate received just one recommendation, unless otherwise noted in parenthesis. (Getting dems to agree on anything is like herding cats, isn't it?)
What do you think?

I would recommend Mike Barrett and myself.

Marilee Kenney Hunt
Marilee would be a fantastic addition to the 8th District Plymouth House! Having worked with her on local issues here in Bridgewater, I can honestly say that she is tireless, dedicated, passionate and carries her share of the load and then some! She cares deeply about her constituents concerns and has a remarkeable ability to work with those 'on the other side of the aisle' in terms of town related issues. I find this to be one of her best attributes, as we have some rather nutty characters that she has to contend with here in Bridgewater!
Thank you for your time!
Sincerely,
Carla Jackson

Hedlund is opposed
Sen. Bob Hedlund is the only Republican state senator with Democratic challengers. There are some committed activists on the South Shore looking to replace him with a Progressive Dem. I'm backing Steve May (D-Hull), who I believe is the stronger candidate and a solid pragmatic progressive.

I can't make it to the concall but I appreciate this form of communication and hope to attend other ones as they come up--
please check out Harry Margolis--I recall him as a leader in the field of elder law--a serious and good advocate for the elderly-
about the 3rd Middlesex senate race, I attended the PDM Forum in Waltham and was convinced that all candidates are progressive; Mike Barrett, however, was the best in his knowledge and ideas for implementation of progressive values-- he is wise and experienced --I particularly liked his opinion that increasing tax on gas for automobiles can financially assist the MTA--
Endorsements
PDM should determine what its endorsement will mean (money, volunteers, etc.). I would think that any endorsement should be meaningful - otherwise why note endorse any number of candidates.
I think it's great that Georgia from Mass Alliance will be aiding in this process, and will bring an objective (strategic) point of view so we don't all just argue for our own local races.
Speaking of which, I recommend people check out Mary Keefe in the Worcester 15th District. She is far and away the most progressive candidate in what could be a very close race (www.electmarykeefe.com).

Support Mary Keefe!
Several of us who were in the original PDM chapter in Worcester are working on behalf of one of that group, Mary Keefe, who is running for State Rep in the Democratic primary in the15th Worcester district. I got to know Mary at that time and have worked with her on many community and electoral efforts since then. The Campaign to Invest in Our Communities is one of her priorities. She has support from Mass Alliance, Progressive Mass, Neighbor to Neighbor, and a wide array of labor and environmental groups. Her campaign would benefit greatly from PDM's endorsement as well as financial support from individuals and volunteer help in the weeks before the September 6th primary. Please visit her website for more information and contribute to her campaign via the Act Blue link there. www.electmarykeefe.com
PDM endorsement
Hi All,
I expect to be on the conference call on the 13th, but wanted to ask in advance about the possibility of considering Sam DiSanti, who is running against Tea Party Republican Nick Boldyga for State Rep - Same is a total newcomer to politics, and very naive, but he is our only candidate and I am hopeful that with support, he will ride, what hopefully will be the Democratic tide in to victory. Nick Boldyga will never vote for An Act to Invest in Our Communities, or pretty much anything else we would support. Would love to throw Sam's hat in the ring and consider him. He did go to the Mass Alliance training, and I believe was endorsed by Mass Alliance.
Thanks!
Corinne Wingard
Marilee Kenney Hunt
Marilee Kenney Hunt is running for State Rep in the 8th Plymouth District. I cant think of anyone more dedicated to the communities she will serve as she already has a proven record of extensive involvement within the communities in numerous capacities. Her career however exemplifies her character however, having spent the bulk of it in the Executive Branch of State Gov't advocating for victims of sexual and domestic violence. Truly a consensus builder who has enormous experience working across party lines (as she has served in FOUR Republican administrations, Marilee defines the word Representative. Marilee has already been endorsed by Mass Alliance. You can find out more about Marilee at www.huntforstaterep.com.
3rd Middlesex Senate
I think it's useful and important t endorse a candidate in this race. My recommendation is for Mara Dolan, who articulates and lives progressive values. She supports the right of workers to bargain collectively and has earned labor union endorsements.
Endorsing Mary Keefe
When PDM was formed in 2003 by a small group of idealistic progressive activists, Mary Keefe was there--to project calm, kindness, reason, willingness to help in any task and warm friendship, and I was struck then and now by her consistency: she was true to her progressive values in her life and work. It is encouraging that someone of Mary's quality is willing to run and able to wage a strong grassroots campaign. It would honor PDM to endorse her--and her presence there would lend honor to our legislature.
